Affiliate Programmes
Affiliate programmes are a type of online marketing solution. Also sometimes known as associate programmes these systems help people or companies that own and operate web sites to bring traffic (i.e. web visitors) to their sites via various online advertising methods.
So, here the owner of a web site will hook up with an affiliate programme and the affiliate will place click through adverts on their own site(s). These adverts, when clicked on by a visitor, will take them through to the owner's web site. This is a simple way of increasing your traffic levels and marketing your site to new web users who may then buy products and services from your own site.
Joining an affiliate programme in itself may be free but it does involve some costs later down the line when visitors use affiliate links to access your web site. There are various ways to pay the commission that is due here. So, you could pay your affiliate partner for every:
- Click - here the affiliate company will charge you for every visitor that accesses your site through the affiliate link or advert.
- Sale - here the affiliate will charge you for every user that visits your site through their efforts and then buys something. This may be set at a fixed price or as a percentage of the sale itself. This payment may be given as a one-off (i.e. the first time that a user makes a purchase) or as a residual payment (i.e. every time the user makes a purchase).
- Action - here the affiliate will charge you for every visitor that makes a specific action (i.e. fills in a form, asks for more information or joins a service).
Joining an affiliate programme is a cost effective route to getting more customers for many web sites as they do not have to do the work of identifying potential customers themselves.
